The Forum for Women in Research

The Forum for Women in Research (WIRF) is a flagship initiative by the University of Sharjah dedicated to empowering women researchers, celebrating scientific excellence, and fostering collaboration across disciplines and sectors. Established as a platform to inspire women to contribute their knowledge and expertise toward addressing global research challenges, the Forum brings together researchers, innovators, academic institutions, industry leaders, and government entities to advance women’s contributions to science, innovation, and knowledge creation.

What began as a university-based initiative has evolved into a globally recognized research platform, expanding from the University of Sharjah to the UAE, the Gulf region, the Middle East and North Africa, and ultimately to an international stage. Across five editions, the Forum has become a dynamic hub for scientific exchange, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and collaboration, highlighting the achievements of women researchers and creating opportunities for impactful research partnerships.

The Forum’s growing impact is reflected in its global reach and collaborative ecosystem, which includes participation from more than 260 universities across 57 countries, over 2,100 research submissions across its editions, and more than 115 research grants awarded to outstanding women researchers across diverse fields. Supported by a wide network of academic, industry, government, and community partners, along with dedicated scientific and judging committees, WIRF continues to provide a platform for recognizing excellence, advancing innovation, and empowering women to shape the future of research.
