Master's Degree

To apply for a Master’s degree program at the University of Sharjah, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Regular Admission

Applicants must:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification from a university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR).
• Have a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00, or its equivalent.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the intended Master’s program.

Conditional Admission

Applicants who do not meet the requirements for regular admission may be considered for conditional admission in the following cases:

CGPA 2.50–2.99

• Applicants with a Bachelor’s CGPA between 2.50 and 2.99 may be admitted conditionally.
• During the first semester, the student may register for a maximum of 6 credit hours of Master’s-level courses and must achieve:
  • A minimum CGPA of 3.00
  • No grade lower than C+

Students who do not achieve the required CGPA after the first 6 credit hours may be permitted to register for up to 3 additional credit hours in the following semester, subject to the conditions specified by the University.

CGPA 2.00–2.49

• Applicants with a Bachelor’s CGPA between 2.00 and 2.49 may be considered for conditional admission if they have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
• Applicants admitted under this category must successfully complete up to 9 credit hours of remedial Master’s-level courses before beginning the Master’s degree courses. They must achieve:
  • A minimum CGPA of 3.00 in the remedial courses
  • No grade lower than C

Remedial courses do not count toward the Master’s degree requirements or CGPA.

Bachelor’s Degree in a Different Field

• Applicants whose Bachelor’s degree is in a field different from the intended Master’s program may also be considered for conditional admission.
• The academic department may require prerequisite or remedial courses of up to 24 credit hours. These courses must be completed before beginning Master’s-level courses and within a maximum of two consecutive semesters, with a minimum grade of C in each course.

English Language Proficiency

Applicants must meet the English language proficiency requirements of the selected program, where applicable.

Additional Program Requirements

Some programs may have additional admission requirements, such as:

• Personal interview
• Admission examination
• Professional experience
• Portfolio
• Other program-specific requirements

Applicants to Master’s programs taught in English must obtain one of the following minimum scores:

• TOEFL iBT: 79
• TOEFL PBT: 550
• IELTS Academic: 6.0

For Master’s programs taught in Arabic, English language proficiency is not required unless specifically required by the selected program.

Programs with Specific English Language Requirements

Applicants to the following programs have different English language requirements:

• Master of Applied Sociology
• Master in Private Law
• Master in Public Law
• Master in Conservation Management of Cultural Heritage

Applicants to these programs must either:

1. Obtain a minimum TOEFL ITP score of 450, or its equivalent; or
2. Obtain a minimum IELTS Academic score of 4.5; or
3. Successfully complete the prescribed English language course (ESL – 0 credit hours) during the first semester.

Note: Students who do not satisfy the English language requirement by the end of the first semester, either by submitting the required English language proficiency score or successfully completing the prescribed ESL course, will not be permitted to continue in the program.

Exemptions

Applicants may be exempt from the English language proficiency requirement in the following cases:

• Native English speakers who completed their academic qualifications in a country where English is the official language, provided that the Bachelor’s degree was completed in English.
• Applicants who graduated from a university where English was the primary language of instruction, provided that they satisfied the University’s approved English language proficiency requirements upon admission to their previous degree, as applicable.

Test Validity

• English language proficiency test results are valid for two years from the date of the examination.
• Exclusion: The University does not accept Home Edition or other online home-based English language proficiency examinations.
