Degree Overview
The Master of Dental Surgery in Pediatric Dentistry (MDS) in Pediatric Dentistry program equips dental practitioners with the essential knowledge and clinical skills necessary to pursue advanced careers in pediatric dentistry and qualify as specialists in the UAE.
What You Will Learn
The program takes a multidisciplinary approach, starting with foundational medical and dental sciences to build core competencies, followed by advanced clinical training in pediatric dentistry. It consists of a major component of clinical education and training complemented by a minor, but considerable research component culminating in a research project.
University Requirements
- The student must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized university with a CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00. Students with a CGPA between 2.5 and 2.99 may be admitted conditionally.
- The applicant must provide official attestations and transcripts of all previous earned undergraduate credits. Theses attestations and transcripts should be approved and attested from Ministry of Education in UAE.
- The degree must be in a major that qualifies the student to study the master program.
- Students in programs taught in English must obtain 550 on the TOEFL (PBT) (should be taken inside the university), 79 on the TOEFL (IBT) (outside the university) or 6 on IELTS (Academic). For the Applied Sociology and Law programs, the student must obtain 450 on TOEFL (PBT) (should be taken inside the university), 45-46 on the TOEFL (IBT) (outside the university) or 4.5 on IELTS.
- A minimum of one-year post qualification work experience

Catalog description: The first-year clinical training in pediatric dentistry is registered as two separate courses for the purpose of registration, and marking system, but it is a spectrum of continuous objectives that guide you through the learning curve in Clinical Pediatric Dentistry which should make the student eligible to sit the Emirati Dental Board in Pediatric Dentistry examination. The course covers evidence-based practice of major aspects of clinical pediatric dentistry; which includes: examination of the child patient, caries diagnosis and risk assessment, treatment planning, preventive therapy, restorative therapy, pulp therapy, and extraction. Students are expected to enhance their skills in clinical pediatric dentistry, be able to obtain clinical records, and present clinical cases both orally and in hard-copy and back-up their treatment based on the literature. Students spend the first year as follows: 2 semesters in the Pediatric Dentistry Clinics and Pediatric Dental Surgery section in the Hospital, 2 weeks in in Pediatrics rotation at the UHS, 1 month (4 weeks) at the UHS for anesthetic rotation, and 2 weeks in the Emergency Department at the UHS.

Catalog description: Biostatistics course provides an introduction to selected important topics in biostatistics concepts and reasoning. This course represents an introduction to the field and provides a survey of data and data types. Specific topics include tools for describing central tendency and variability in data; methods for performing inference on population means and proportions via sample data; statistical hypothesis testing and its application to group comparisons; issues of power and sample size in study designs; and random sample and other study types. While there are some formulae and computational elements to the course, the emphasis is on interpretation and concepts. This course shall strengthen students’ preparation in their research proposal in second year of the program.
