Go Abroad (Outbound)
Short-Term Academic Visit
Short-Term Academic Visits are open to undergraduate and graduate students. This experience is designed to enrich your global perspective and promote knowledge exchange, rather than provide course or transfer credits.
Short-Term Academic visits can include:
- Research visits
- Internships
- Summer visits
Duration: 2 weeks to 3 months
How It Works
- Contact the Office of International Relations (OIR) to explore UOS partner institutions at oir@sharjah.ac.ae
- Connect with faculty at the host university that you are interested in or ask your college faculty to recommend institutions or international collaborators.
- Once both your college and the host institution agree, you may proceed with your visit.
- The eligibility & approval process depends on the requirements & procedures of the host institutions and the nature of their program.
Note: This program is self-funded. Students are responsible for travel, accommodation, visa, and personal expenses unless external grants or scholarships are secured.
Student Exchange Program
Expand your horizons and experience university life abroad!
Through the UOS Student Exchange Program, you can study for one or two semesters at one of our international partner universities while remaining enrolled at UOS. This is your chance to gain global exposure, develop cross-cultural skills, and build a worldwide academic network.
UOS exchange students pay tuition and fees to UOS, while other costs (housing, insurance, and living expenses) are paid directly to the host university.

- University of Ottawa – Telfer School of Management (Canada) – Undergraduate only
- École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), Canada – Engineering (All levels)
- The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) – School of Engineering (Graduate only)
- University of Seoul, South Korea – All Colleges (All levels)
- University of Luxembourg – Faculty of Law, Economics, and Finance (Undergraduate + Master’s)
- The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands – Faculty of Business (Undergraduate)
- Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia – Faculty of Journalism (All levels)
- University of Exeter, United Kingdom – Faculty of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (Master’s)
Eligibility
To qualify for the Exchange Program:
- Completed at least 60 credit hours (undergraduate) or 12 credit hours (postgraduate).
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 (C+) for undergraduates or 3.0 (B) for postgraduates.
- Undergraduate students cannot participate in their final academic year (postgraduate students are exempt).
- Final approval must be granted by the Head of Department and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
- Students are responsible for all personal expenses, including accommodation, airfare, insurance, and daily costs.
- Additional requirements may apply depending on the major or host institution.
How to Apply
- Send your application to the OIR email and include the following information in the email:
- Full name
- UOS ID
- Current program
- Number of credits completed
- Year of study
- CGPA
- Semester you are interested in completing the exchange
- Partner institution(s) you are interested in applying to
- OIR will review submitted application and coordinate with your college and department for approval of eligibility.
- If nominated, student will complete the host university’s application form.
- Upon conditional acceptance, academic advisors from UOS and the host university will confirm student's course selections and credit transfers.
- If accepted, student will receive official admission from the host university.
- After admission, proceed with your visa, accommodation, and travel arrangements with the host university’s support.
**Please note that if the visa application is rejected, the student will not be able to proceed with the exchange.

Short-Term Academic Visit
Program Overview
Short-term visits to the University of Sharjah allow international students and researchers to collaborate with our faculty, participate in research, or gain professional experience on campus.

Duration: 2 weeks to 3 months
This program is designed to immerse students and researchers into the UOS academic community, promote knowledge exchange, and help you gain a deeper understanding of Sharjah’s cultural and educational environment.
Note: Short-term academic visits do not count toward course or transfer credits.

All visiting students must be hosted by a University of Sharjah faculty member.
We recommend reaching out directly to faculty within your area of interest to discuss potential visit opportunities.

How to Apply
- Please send your application to the OIR email. The email should include the following information:
- Name
- Most up-to-date CV (must include email address, phone number, and residential address)
- One-page visit plan
- Planned visit duration (start and end dates)
- UOS faculty host (if already confirmed), or a request for OIR assistance in identifying a suitable host
- Once the application is submitted, the Office of International Relations (OIR) will contact the identified UOS faculty host.
- After the faculty member confirms their availability to host the visit, they will seek college-level approval.
- Upon approval, the OIR will issue an official invitation letter for the visit.
- Please note that the University of Sharjah is not responsible for any costs associated with the visit.
- The OIR can assist in arranging on-campus accommodation at the UoS Student Dormitories, should you wish to stay on campus.

How It Works

The home institution nominates students by emailing oir@sharjah.ac.ae, including the students:
- Full name
- Email address
- Program and Year of study
- CGPA
- Any other relevant details
- The Office of International Relations (OIR) reviews the nomination internally. If approved, OIR will share the required application forms and document checklist.
- Nominated students submit all required forms and documents to oir@sharjah.ac.ae.
- OIR assigns a Faculty Advisor, coordinates course approvals with UOS academic departments, and completes the student’s registration.

Once approved and enrolled, students receive a UOS student ID, valid for the duration of their study period.

Upon completion of the exchange, students receive an official UOS transcript for credit transfer to their home institution.

Exchange students pay tuition fees at their home institution, unless otherwise stated in the exchange agreement.

Students are responsible for all personal expenses, including housing, airfare, visa, insurance, and transportation.
**Important Note: Acceptance is conditional upon obtaining security clearance and visa approval.
