1st Workshop -- Binary and Multiple Stars: From Observations to Estimations

The first edition of the workshop, titled “Binary and Multiple Stars: From Observations to Estimations”, was conducted online and organized by the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) in collaboration with the Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sharjah. The workshop hosted a distinguished group of internationally recognized scholars in astronomy and space sciences, including Prof. Martin Barstow (UK Space Agency, former President of the Royal Astronomical Society and member of the Gaia mission team) and Prof. Andrei Tokovinin, a leading authority in the study of binary and multiple stellar systems, alongside regional experts such as Prof. Muneer Eid, Prof. Hatem Widad, Dr. Antonios Manousakis, Dr. Ali Lotayni, Dr. Alaa Al-Azzam, Dr. Hanna Sabbat, Dr. Ahmed Abu Shtal, and Dr. Mohammad Mardini. The scientific program focused on observational techniques, access to major astronomical databases and catalogs (including Gaia DR2 and interferometric binary star catalogs), spectroscopic analysis, and orbital solutions of binary systems, while also emphasizing research skills development, data analysis methodologies, and scientific writing and publishing, targeting graduate students and early-career researchers in physics, astronomy, engineering, and related disciplines.

2nd Workshop -- Implementation of Al-Wardat’s Method for Analyzing Binary and Multiple Stellar Systems

The second edition of the workshop, titled “Implementation of Al-Wardat’s Method for Analyzing Binary and Multiple Stellar Systems”, was held in a hybrid format at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) on June 8, 2024, in cooperation with the College of Sciences at the University of Sharjah. This edition placed a strong emphasis on the practical implementation of Al-Wardat’s method through a structured program combining preparatory lectures and intensive hands-on sessions. The workshop featured invited and contributing speakers including Prof. Hamid M. Al-Naimiy, Prof. Mashhoor Al-Wardat, Dr. Ahmad Abu-Shattal, Ms. Hoda Algendy, Mr. Ammar Eissa Abdulla, and Mr. Mohammad F. Talafha. Participants received guided training on stellar model atmospheres, spectroscopic and spectrophotometric observations from the Sharjah Astronomical Observatory, and step-by-step application of the method to binary, triple, and quadruple stellar systems. With a limited number of onsite and online participants, the workshop provided an interactive environment aimed at graduate students and early-career researchers seeking hands-on experience in modern binary and multiple star analysis techniques.
