Launch of Childhood Diabetes Project in Sharjah Schools
In a significant collaboration between the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), the Childhood Diabetes Project in Sharjah Schools (CDPS) was officially launched last week. This pioneering initiative aims to assess the prevalence of diabetes, particularly Type 1 diabetes, among students while identifying best practices to enhance the academic, emotional, and physical well-being of diabetic students across the emirate.
The project will encompass nearly 180 private schools in Sharjah, making it the most significant and impactful diabetes initiative in both Sharjah and the UAE.
What sets this project apart is its collaborative nature, involving the Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences, led by Dr. Jalal Taneera and Dr. Amal Hussein from the College of Medicine, alongside the Research Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences, represented by Prof. Faker Al Gharaibeh and Dr. Noura Al Karbi. This multidisciplinary approach underscores the commitment to fostering a comprehensive understanding of childhood diabetes and improving affected students' lives.
