University of Sharjah and National Center of Meteorology Strengthen Joint Collaboration
The University of Sharjah’s Aviation Center of Excellence (ACoE) and Sharjah Smart Center for Climate Resilience (SSCCR) met with representatives from Air Arabia on September 24, 2026, to discuss collaboration in aviation emissions research, fuel-consumption analysis, and operational data validation.
During the meeting, the ACoE team presented the Air Arabia Aviation Emissions Project, which uses flight trajectory data to estimate aircraft fuel flow and emissions. Discussions focused on validating these estimates against actual operational data and assessing discrepancies between predicted and actual fuel consumption.
The teams also discussed factors affecting actual fuel consumption and opportunities to improve data quality and validation. Potential collaboration will focus on using anonymized operational data to support model validation and exploring methodologies for identifying inaccurate records.
As next steps, Air Arabia and ACoE will explore further collaboration in fuel-burn analysis, emissions assessment, operational efficiency, and data validation, strengthening the connection between academic research and real-world aviation operations.
