University of Sharjah Conducts Knowledge-Sharing Visit to Air Arabia Headquarters

A delegation from the University of Sharjah, represented by the Aviation Center of Excellence and the Sharjah Smart Center for Climate Resilience (SSCCR), conducted a coordination and knowledge-sharing visit to Air Arabia Headquarters. The visit brought together representatives from Air Arabia and the University to discuss operational excellence, sustainability initiatives, and opportunities for future collaboration in the aviation sector.

During the visit, Air Arabia presented an overview of its Flight Planning System, which supports safe and efficient flight operations through route planning, fleet expansion activities, and emissions reporting. The team also showcased its Flight Operations System (FOS), which integrates with Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs), flight dispatch operations, and onboard aircraft systems to capture and analyze operational data in real time.

A key focus of the discussions was aviation sustainability and emissions management. Air Arabia highlighted its ongoing efforts to improve fuel efficiency, monitor carbon emissions, and comply with international environmental frameworks, including the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). Participants also explored emerging technologies and digital solutions that support emissions forecasting, operational optimization, and sustainability reporting.

The meeting addressed several operational challenges facing the aviation industry, including evolving international regulations, airspace coordination requirements, weather-related operational constraints, and their impact on efficiency and fuel consumption. The potential application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and aviation data sources to support predictive analytics and enhance operational decision-making was also discussed.

The visit concluded with discussions on emissions reporting and data management processes, highlighting opportunities to strengthen data integration, automate reporting workflows, and improve data quality assurance mechanisms. Both parties emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in advancing innovation, sustainability, and research-driven solutions for the aviation sector.
