UoS to Host the 14th Arab Conference of the Arab Union for Space Sciences and Astronomy next November
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), the University will host the 14th Arab Conference of the Arab Union for Space Sciences and Astronomy, jointly organized by the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences and the University of Sharjah, in collaboration with the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and technology (SAASST). The conference brings together scientists, researchers, amateur astronomers, and graduate students from all over the world, and discusses the latest scientific research, studies, developments, and innovations.
The conference will be held both in person at the University and online via social media portals , during the period from 13-16 November 2023, providing an excellent opportunity for researchers, scholars from institutes and research centers to meet and exchange knowledge, expertise, and ideas.
His Excellency, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, UoS Chancellor, highlighted the significance of the conference, which will encompass several scientific and technical sessions and workshops focusing on the fields of astronomy, astrophysics, and space, including the universe and its components of celestial bodies, such as stars, galaxies, and the solar system. The conference will also address other topics such as the Earth from outer space, the physics of the sun, solar activities and their impact on the atmosphere, and the Arab scientific heritage in astronomy. In parallel with the conference activities, exhibitions of astronomical instruments and observatories and the activities of astronomical societies in the Arab world will be held.
Al Naimiy stressed the UoS's readiness to host the conference, providing an excellent atmosphere for the participants to promote networking that increases collaborations in scientific research, space technology and education fields.
Dr. Hussein El Mahdi, Dean of Academic Support Service s and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the conference, pointed out that the committee received more than 300 submissions, of which 170 were accepted after being evaluated based on the established criteria and the themes of the conference, which focus on astronomy, astrophysics, space sciences, technology, astronomy in Arabic and Islamic cultures. The conference will bring together an elite group of scholars as keynote speakers, including scientists and presidents of astronomy and space sciences centers from the United Arab Emirates, China, and the international Astronomical Union. The conference will host 25 researchers and space enthusiasts representing the Arab Planetarium Society.
He added that the conference will include academic and scholarly activities, as well as cultural and social activities for school students. Additionally, there will be field trips to the most important historical and tourist attractions in the United Arab Emirates.
