UoS’s College of Sciences Launches the 9th Chemistry Festival
As a part of the University of Sharjah’s (UoS) silver jubilee celebration, marking its 25th anniversary, the Chemistry Department of the College of Sciences at the UoS organized the 9th Chemistry Festival themed “Chemistry Applications in Life”. Six groups of chemistry students participated in the event by presenting their scientific projects and experiments, aiming to educate people about various fields of chemistry and its fundamentals in daily life to improve their health habits, promote health and thereby improving the standard of living.The festival discussed various topics on the applications of organic chemistry in daily life, presented models and substrates to biology and pharmacology, properties and procedures to the sciences and technology, as well as highlighted the essential contribution of chemistry to humanity in food, medicines, clothes, housing, energy, raw materials, transport and communication.
The event concluded with announcing and awarding the best three projects. The first place was awarded to the research project “Biochemistry” presented by Fatima Ibrahim and Sana Samer, " Computational Chemistry" by Sarina Hashim, Jawaher Nasir and Sadia Ali won the 2nd place. While Maryam Imad, Nibal Beidas and Lamia Al Hamoudi who presented on "Organic Chemistry" won the 2nd place (repeated).The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Nouar Tabet, Dean of the College of Sciences, Dr. Ihsan Ahmed Shehadi, Vice Dean of the College of Sciences, Prof. Monther Abdeljabbar Khanfar, Chair of the Chemistry Department, Dr. Mahreen Arooj, Assistant Professor, College of Sciences and a number of faculty, administrative staff, chemistry students, and schools students in the Emirate of Sharjah.
