UoS’s College of Computing and Informatics Organizes Symposium on E-commerce and Cybersecurity

In the presence of Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of the Sharjah Digital Department, and His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah(UoS), the College of Computing and Informatics organized a symposium on E-commerce and Cybersecurity (SEC-2024), with the participation of speakers,experts and specialists from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Sharjah Cyber Security Center, United Arab Emirates (UAE), RedTeam Hacker Academy, UAE, Security Strategist, Amazon Dubai, in collaboration with the Colleges of Business Adminstration, Law, Sharia and Islamic Studies at UoS, and Harvard University.

In his opening remarks, the UoS’s Chancellor welcomed the speakers and participants, highlighting that organizing such events that raise awareness on the significance of cybersecurity in digital transformation aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah. He explained that the objectives of the seminar are in line with the UAE’s vision 2071, which focuses on preparing leaders in various fields, including the digital economy based on cybersecurity and e-commerce. The Chancellor emphasized that the University of Sharjah, as a leading higher education institution, is developing bachelor's and postgraduate programs to prepare graduates to become technology leaders within the fields of cybersecurity and secure e-commerce.

The Chancellor concluded by expressing gratitude to His Highness the President of the University of Sharjah for his guidance and continuous support, as well as thanking the speakers, participants, and members of the organizing and judging committees for the competitions of the seminar.For his part, Prof. Abbes Amira, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics, emphasized that this semniar serves as a vital platform for acdamics and researchers to exchange ideas, and discuss the latest techonlocgical applications and innovations in cybersecurity and e-commerece from multidisciplinary perspectives, which will contribute to strengthening the country’s strategy towards digital transaformation.

He stated that the college is currently developing innovative programs in e-commerce and cybersecurity, supported by the scientific research conducted at the cyber sercuirty center and various research groups.

The Dean added that the seminar is held in conjunction with the Cyber Security Week, which features a variety of activites including workshops, discussion sessions and comptitions. He pointed out that the college aims to equip students with the necessary skills to meet societal needs.

At the end of the opening ceremony, the keynote speakers were honored, including Prof. Roberto Di Pietro, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, KSA, Dr. Grigorios Fragkos, Head of Sharjah Cyber Security Center, , Mr. Jaizal Ali, Director of RedTeam Hacker Academy, and Ms. Hanane Lboukili, Security Strategist at Amazon Dubai. This was followed by the announcement of the winning students in the E-commerce poster exhibition and Ethical Hacking Competition.
