UoS Hosts a Delegate of University Executives from the USA
The University of Sharjah (UoS) received an academic delegation, including several officials and researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and other American universities. The visitation's purpose was to engage in intellectual discussion about leadership strategies for addressing different higher education issues, including cooperation in research, exchange programs, academic experiences, internationalization, and training. The visit was facilitated by the Institute of Leadership in Higher Education at the University, and the delegation were hosted by His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and a number of vice-chancellors, college deans, directors of research centres, and administrative departments.
During the meeting, the Chancellor welcomed the delegation on behalf of Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, pointing out that the UoS is one of the largest universities in the United Arab Emirates. He further explained that the university offers 121 accredited academic programs at various educational levels, namely in undergraduate and postgraduate studies at its main branch, besides its three branches located in different geographic areas in the Emirate of Sharjah, supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The Chancellor also pointed to the UoS's advanced position among international universities, as it was ranked among the top 100 young universities in the world and named among 440 global universities, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2022). Besides, the University has distinguished itself in various fields, including computer sciences, medicine, health sciences, physics, astronomy, and space sciences, which contributed to the establishment of Sharjah Oasis for Technology and Innovation (SOTI) to promote applied scientific research.
During the discussion, vice-chancellors presented an overview of the University's capabilities and its significant advancement in scientific research in terms of the quantity and quality of research published, which are in line with the strategy of the university and the country in supporting scientific research and finding solutions to challenges facing society. In addition, they discussed students' experience and services provided by the University, besides advanced technology and scientific facilities which facilitate the educational journey of scholarship students, through establishing student forum building, providing sports facilities, laboratories, and conducting activities that suit student's various cultures.
The visiting delegation, for its part, praised the quality of education and scientific research offered by the university according to the highest standards. In addition, they engaged in discussions to document leadership lessons and means for promoting collaboration on different fronts with the university in strengthening strategies to ensure students' learning, health, and wellbeing.
At the end of the visit, the delegation inspected a number of facilities and scientific departments at the university, as well as visited Dr. Sultan Al-Qasimi Centre and Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), to explore the planetarium, scientific exhibitions, research laboratories and astronomical observatories.
