Within the framework of the University of Sharjah's (UoS) keenness to enhance and activate cooperation with various international universities and academic institutions, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS, received Dr. Yvonne Lim Ai Lian, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs at the University of Malaya (UM).Discussions were held to strengthen joint scientific research cooperation between the two universities, which began in 2019, followed by signinig a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a dual doctoral degree programme in fields of engineering. The MoU was signed on bahelf of UoS by Prof. Youssef Al Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and on behalf of the University of Malaya by Dr. Yvonne Lim Ai Lian, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic and International Affairs.

The agreement stipulates the establishment of a dual doctoral degree programme between both universities in several fields of engineering, including engineering management, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering, as well as renewable energy. This allows students to obtain a doctoral degree accredited by both universities, and faciliate the joint supervision of doctoral theses to be undertaken by any candidate from both institutions under the doctoral degree programme between UM and UoS. The agreement also provides for the possibility of including other scientific disciplines in the fields of medical and social sciences based on the approval of both universities to benefit researchers and postgraduate students.The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs, Prof. Abdul Wahab Bin Mohammad, Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof.Khalil Abdelmawgoud, Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Abdelaziz Soufyane, Director of Office of International Relations, Dr. Ahmed Almehdi Manager of Study Abroad Unit, and a number of UoS’s faculty members. In addtion to Nour Hashem, Director of Cooperation and Partners Department at the University of Malaya.
