University of Sharjah Organizes “Nuclear Energy Week 2022”

The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering of the College of Engineering at the University of Sharjah (UoS) organized the “Nuclear Energy Week 2022” in celebration of this year’s Nuclear Science Week. The event included a set of activities and training workshops with the participation of a large number of students from various local universities and high schools.

The Nuclear Energy Week aims to spread awareness on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and its importance, as well as highlights the growth of the nuclear energy sector in the United Arab Emirates. The Introductory seminar was attended by Prof. Youssef Al Haik, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Acting Dean of College of Engineering, Prof. Naser Khaled Nawayseh, Chair of the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering, and Dr. Bassam Khuwaileh, Assistant Professor at the department.

In his speech, Prof. Youssef Al Haik, stressed on the importance of shifting to the use of alternative, sustainable and renewable sources of energy, as it has a positive impact on society and contributes greatly to the environment. In addition, he provided an introduction about the College of Engineering at the UoS and its academic disciplines that are compatible with needs of local and regional labor market.During the event, a number of college students have delivered an introductory presentation on the Nuclear Engineering program and highlighted the nuclear energy infrastructure at the UoS and the UAE. In addition, students toured UoS’s specialized laboratories and workshops, as well as distributed educational and introductory leaflets.
