To Verify the Learning Outcomes: Outcome-Based Learning Lecture by a Faculty Member at the University of Sharjah
Within the series of lectures and workshops organized by the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sharjah for faculty and staff members through interactive video communication technology, the College held a workshop titled "Outcome-Based Learning and Evaluation Mechanisms to Achieve Learning Outcomes: Foundations And Applications", presented by Prof. Esam El-Din Agamy, Acting Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of Quality Assurance, Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation.
The workshop aimed at rooting the aspects of learning based on outcomes, including evaluation of outputs, and emphasizing that measuring and evaluating learning outcomes at the level of academic programs and courses is part of a comprehensive process. This process begins with accurate and comprehensive identification of learning outcomes at the level of programs and courses based on which the scientific content of the course and methods are determined. Followed by an analysis of the evaluation results that lead to continuous improvement and development of the educational process.
During the workshop, Prof. Esam El-Din Agamy discussed the setting of goals and educational outcomes and converting them into educational outputs, then classifying them based on the UAE qualifications system. He then touched on the importance of evaluating educational outcomes and the mechanism of benefiting from evaluation results, then analyzing the results and formulating them with the aim of preparing the educational outcomes evaluation report. Then, he talked about the means and tools for evaluating educational outcomes, whether they are direct or indirect tools, how to compare the evaluation results to all the tools used, and how to analyze and present the results.
In the second part of the workshop, Prof. Esam discussed the commonly used evaluation tools, where he examined the exam and how to use it in the evaluation, and the steps to build the achievement test. Then he talked about the integrative course, in terms of its goals and types and how to use it in the evaluation, then reviewed one of the common methods of collecting information from a group of people called "Focus Group Interview", where he addressed the concept, how to conduct it and how to use it in the evaluation process. Finally, he talked about how to use the performance evaluation, student profile and questionnaire in the evaluation process.
