Under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, Prof. Nouar Tabet, Dean of the College of Sciences inaugurated the "7th Chemistry Festival" for the Emirate of Sharjah school students. This is organized by the Department of Chemistry at the University's College of Sciences. Dr. Ihsan Ahmed Shejadi, Assistant Dean of the College, attended the inauguration along with Prof. Raed Al-Qawasmeh, Chair of the Department of Chemistry, as well as a number of faculty and staff members and 310 school students from Sharjah.

The Festival aims to introduce the concepts of chemistry, color combinations in fruits and vegetables through chemical experiments that University students have presented to school students, and to simplify chemicals and healthy chemical reactions found in different foods that occur in daily life.

The Festival reviewed a number of projects and scientific experiments, for example: the effect of acidic and alkaline foods on the human body, extracting the genetic code from fruits and vegetables for genetic modification and measuring their validity, as well as introducing students to the properties of antioxidant foods, and knowledge of foods that contain carbohydrates or proteins or fat using chemicals. Experiments also varied to include measuring oxidation in sugar content in fruits, knowing the additives in blended or adulterated food commodities, in addition to identifying the harms and benefits of preservatives in foods and ways of preserving and storing them, and the periodic table of essential vitamins and minerals that a person needs.

The UAE Chemical Society affiliated to the Ministry of Community Development in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah participated in the festival, which aims to encourage chemistry students to register to update their knowledge and participate in competitions related to chemistry, along with an introductory pavilion at the College of Science of its departments, programs and goals.
