The University of Sharjah Wins Five Prizes in the Categories of the Sharjah Sustainability Award
The University of Sharjah is keen to pay attention to sustainable development in all aspects of the University campus and the need to protect the environment and preserve the biodiversity in the Emirate of Sharjah. This to keep pace with the visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, President of the University of Sharjah, and with the support of His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, in promoting the innovation and application of sustainable environmental solutions, and consolidating the principles of sustainable development and the concept of environmental culture in the educational sector. This is done through the system of sustainability circles, adopted by the Office of Sustainability, and its members of faculty and staff members as well as students.
The University of Sharjah won five awards within the Sharjah Sustainability Award in its eighth session 2019/2020, organized by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah. The first award in the category "Sustainable Campus Award" was awarded to the project on aspects of reducing energy consumption under the supervision of Prof. Maamar Battayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies and Prof. Imad Alsyouf, Director of the Sustainability Office. The second award was in the category of "Distinguished Student Team Award - Field of Applied Research" for creating a hybrid electrical storage system for female students, Moza Al-Kutbi and Bashair Al-Shehhi under the supervision of Dr. Abdul-Hay Al-Alami.
The third award was in the category "Distinguished Student Award - Evaluation Research Field" on the advanced characterization of asphalt mixtures for student Maysar Abu al-Khair under the supervision of professors Walid Ziada and Ghazi Al-Khatib. The university also won the fourth award in the category of "Distinguished Student Team Award - Field of Scientific Research" on assessing the impact of synergistic nanoparticles and nanotubes fibers for high-performance methods in the United Arab Emirates for students Muhammad Yam Faris, Abdullah Ismail Haydari, and Qusay Walid Al-Rini, and supervised by Professors Walid Ziada and Ghazi Al-Khatib. The fifth award was in the category of "Distinguished Student Team Award - the field of designing a model for sustainable environmental solutions" for the creation of an advanced floating solar distillation device for female students Sarah Mamoun Al-Marzooqi, Nada Noueeshi, Maryam Ahli under the supervision of Dr. Mamdouh Asaad.
