The University of Sharjah Welcomes its New Students in a Virtual Orientation Meeting
His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, conveyed the welcome and congratulations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, to newly enrolled students.
This came during the virtual orientation meeting with new students from all colleges for the new academic year. Prof. Eid Mohammad Kanaan, Dean of Men's Student Affairs, attended the meeting along with Dr. Salama Al Rahoomi, Dean of Women's Student Affairs, as well as College Deans, and Department and Centers Heads.
During his opening speech, the University Chancellor welcomed the new students on behalf of the University of Sharjah's family all of whom contribute to the development of science and knowledge of each student. The University of Sharjah, he added, pays attention to outstanding students as they represent the University in all scientific and creative platforms. The University is also working to reward students of academic excellence by offering them tuition fees scholarships starting with a rate of 25% to 50%. The Chancellor urged the students to work towards achieving these scholarships during their studies at the University of Sharjah.
The Chancellor stressed that by joining the University of Sharjah as students, they are now affiliated with a scientific edifice that is led, directed, and supported by the pioneer of science and scholars the Ruler of Sharjah. With the support of His Highness and his wise leadership, the University was able to achieve the top advanced positions in many scientific, educational and sustainability components and even in many scientific disciplines at the local, regional, and even global levels. He urged the new students to be courageous and bold in the pursuit of knowledge.
The Chancellor emphasized that the University takes all precautionary measures to protect its students and its faculty, administrative, and technical staff members. He then shared advise to help students effectively integrate into university life, and how to make the most of what the university offers from scientific, cultural, artistic, and athletic resources.
The meeting also included short videos about the two deanships for male and female affairs to introduce their various sections, services, and activities. The Deans of Students Affairs also welcomed the new students and urged them to participate in extracurricular activities.
Dr. Hussein El Mahdi, Dean of Academic Support Services, presented a brief about the University and academic guidance as well as the significant role of the academic advisor in the student's academic journey. He talked about the students' study plans, academic calendar, the banner and blackboard systems, how to calculate the GPA, and the services provided by the University Libraries Department.
As for Prof. Imad Alsyouf, Director of the Sustainability Office, he gave an overview of the University's Sustainability Office, its ranking in the field of sustainability, and the students 'role in participating in sustainability activities.
