The University of Sharjah Hosts a Lecture on Intellectual Property and Patents
The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at the University of Sharjah's Vice Chancellor Office for Research and Graduate Studies, in cooperation with Dubai Customs, organized a seminar titled "Intellectual Property and Patents" presented by Ms. Mahbouba Baqer, Head of Awareness and Education Section - Intellectual Property Rights Protection - Dubai Customs. This in the presence of Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies, along with Prof. Imad El Din Ahmad Abdul Hay, Acting Dean of the College of Law, and Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy, Head of Technology Transfer Office, who moderated the session.
The seminar aimed to promote and instil the culture of intellectual property rights and ways to protect patents and trademarks. The lecture introduced intellectual property and its divisions, trademarks and unfair competition, and touched on the definition of patents, trade secrets, copyright and related rights. This in addition to the Dubai Customs efforts to protect the consumer from commercial fraud and counterfeiting products when entering the country's outlets and protecting trademark owners.
220 faculty members and students attended the seminar from various colleges of the University in addition to several attendees from local institutions and universities outside the country, and Ms. Mahbouba Baqer and Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy answered the questions of the attendees.
In conclusion, Dr. Mohamed Al Hemairy stressed the University's interest in helping inventors and entrepreneurs in the University by protecting their inventions and supporting their innovations through the Technology Transfer Office, while strengthening cooperation between researchers at the University and the industrial and external agencies through the Research Outreach Department Office of the University of Sharjah's Vice Chancellor Office for Research and Graduate Studies.
