SAASST at UoS Organizes Martian Rover 2.0 Workshop

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST) at the University of Sharjah (UoS), organized a three-day workshop titled Martian Robotic Rover 2.0 delivered by the Planetarium and Outreach Department team. The workshop aimed to enrich scientific and practical knowledge among high school and university students, as well as space enthusiasts, by providing the principles of a comprehensive hands-on experience, exposing them to a range of cutting-edge tools, and technologies, all geared towards enhancing their skills and capabilities.

The workshop addressed the principles of significance of artificial intelligence in spacecraft design and remote sensing smart coding, and highlighted space missions involving robotics. Participants explored the electronic components required to complete the rover and tested the initial code responsible for controlling the rover's motors, enabling it to navigate easily. At the end of the workshop, participants tested their rovers on the specially designed Martian platform to perform a variety of tasks such as obstacle avoidance.

Mr. Marwan Shwaiki, Director of Planetarium and Community Outreach Department, emphasized the importance of organizing such activities and interactive workshops that contribute to refining and developing the skills of the new generation of students, enabling them to keep pace with the direction of the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Sharjah in the field of space technology.
