International Graduate Winter School Events Conclusion

The Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Muslim and Arab Sciences (SIFHAMS) at the University of Sharjah concluded the events of the International Graduate Winter School 2020 under the slogan "Scientific Tradition in Islamic Civilization." This in cooperation with the Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM), and the Institute of Physics (IP) at the University of Cologne in Germany, in the presence of 35 international students in various disciplines in PhD and Master's programs. The program included a variety of daily lectures that lasted for two weeks and were attended by a group of experts and specialists from the University of Sharjah, Germany and Malaysia.

During the closing session, Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, welcomed the international students, then gave a lecture on the contribution of astronomers to Islamic civilization, as well as the influence and contributions of Muslim scholars in various scientific fields. He also spoke about the importance of naming one of the recently discovered stars as "Sharjah" and naming its planet "Barjeel" by the International Astronomical Union, then the Chancellor concluded the lecture by presenting an overview of the University of Sharjah in terms of the number of students and the academic programs it offers and the scientific centers it contains.

A large number of students applied to join the Winter School in its current session. 35 students were accepted, representing several countries including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Bosnia, Syria, Gambia, and other countries.
