In Support of Joint Cooperation in Education and Research An MoU between the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Archaeology Authority

Aiming to establish and support cooperation in the educational, research and training fields, the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Archeology Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding. His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, signed the MoU with His Excellency Dr. Sabah Jassem, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority.

This Memorandum of Understanding aims to involve both parties in research projects, organizing joint scientific events, exchanging information, experiences, documents, and scientific publications, as well as training students of various academic levels at the Authority.

His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy welcomed the attendees at the beginning of the signing expressing his happiness in collaborating through this MoU with the Sharjah Archeology Authority, which he said would serve the local community and enhance the expertise and practices of archeology specialists in a way that serves the development of the philosophy of preserving cultural heritage in the region and the Arab world. He also clarified that the University, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University, made clear progress in the field of scientific research and education. He added that the University, through its research institutes, is working on specialized research in archeology. The University is offering a Master in Conservation Management of Cultural Heritage program in cooperation with the "ICCROM" organization, one of the entities affiliated with UNESCO, which aims to provide students and specialists with comprehensive knowledge of the theories, methodologies, laws and legislation of preservation and management of cultural heritage and its development.

His Excellency Dr. Sabah Jassem, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority, said that the signing of the MoU and cooperation with the University of Sharjah is within the framework of the Authority's endeavor to strengthen community partnerships, support creative and innovative skills, and continue excellence and progress in harmony. This is following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and especially that the University of Sharjah possesses scientific expertise and competencies that can be used in various aspects of work, especially in the field of research and education.

From the University, Prof. Sherif Sedky, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding along with Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies; and Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs. From the Authority, Mr. Eissa Yousef, Director of the Department of Antiquities and Tangible Heritage, and Mr. Abdullah AlOwais, Director of the Government Communication Department.
