A Master’s Thesis: Sharjah Government Employees’ Readiness to Shift to an E-Government
Researcher Asma Saeed Al Muhairi at the University of Sharjah's College of Communication defended her master's thesis under the title Sharjah Government Employees' Readiness to Shift to an E-Government An Overview of Electronic Readiness, under the supervision of Dr. Bouziane Zaid. The thesis aimed to research the readiness of Sharjah government employees for the digital transformation by studying their susceptibility to change towards electronic procedures and their awareness of the importance of switching to an e-government.
The Researcher confirmed that her job as an employee in the Sharjah Government motivated her to present a study aimed at improving the level of work for the employee, with a scientific perspective on this topic. She emphasized that digital transformation is no longer a luxury, but rather an imperative, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic and remote work. Al Muhairi discussed the most important means for communicating information about the significance of digital transformation, and the employee adopting this transformation as part of his/her professional development goals. One of the most important points she discussed is preparing employees for this change as a key to accelerating the digital transformation process.
The Researcher stated that the results of the thesis demonstrated the ability of Sharjah Government employees to adapt to and adopt modern technology to perform their work using the latest communication programs. She also recommended the necessity of developing a clear plan for digital transformation, and training employees through workshops to benefit as much as possible from the developed programs during the remote work period.
The study also confirmed that the remote working period highlighted the importance of direct communication with managers with their employees to draw work plans and ensure the employee's readiness and full knowledge of the programs. The study also recommended the use of social media programs that may contribute to spreading awareness of the importance of digital transformation through organized campaigns that encourage the employee to adopt the transition to digital government and setting it within his goals. This is through relying on the UAE's strong infrastructure in the field of communication and information technology. Al Muhairi thanked the University of Sharjah for its support for graduate students, and for the support of faculty for students in the field of scientific research and the encouragement to study new topics that serve community development.
For his part, Dr. Bouziane Zaid, Thesis Supervisor, stressed that the thesis serves the community from all sides, and provides the government with solutions suggested by the employees themselves. The Researcher collected the solutions through questionnaires for Sharjah Government employees, which helps managers in decision-making and making the necessary adjustments to the transformation plan. Dr. Zaid emphasized that the thesis has several positive aspects that can be further expanded and studied if the researcher is able to obtain more support to reach a larger number of employees and study them thoroughly.
