Forum To Promote Islamic Tolerance
A new forum has been set up at the University of Sharjah to highlight Islamic values of tolerance, coexistence and moderation.
Called “The Forum of Intellectual Security in Islam", its aim will be to increase awareness among students and the community about the significance of the concept of moderation in religious practice and theory.
It is the university's first full-fledged endeavor to address issues of extremism through dialogue in which Islamic ethics of moderation are promoted.
The forum's launch comes as the United Arab Emirates is emerging as one of the most tolerant places in the world where people of different colors and religions can coexist.
The Forum will hold seminars, lectures and training workshops to disseminate moderation and tolerance across the campus
Confronting extremism and spreading tolerance will be one of the forum's major targets, as well as drawing plans on how to fight all forms of hatred and violence.
In drawing its strategy and vision, the forum can lean on existing policies and plans Arab and Muslim universities pursue in this regard.
The forum will have its own budget, a director and a steering committee and play a role in teaching and research carried out at the university's College of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
