The First Mass Wedding for University of Sharjah Graduates
1. Introduction
In line with the national vision that designated this as the Year of the Family, and with the Emirate of Sharjah's longstanding commitment to the family as the cornerstone of community stability and sustainable development, there is a clear need for meaningful initiatives that support young people, especially university graduates, as they move from academic studies to family formation and the building of their future.
As part of the University's commitment to its social responsibility and its dedication to supporting its graduates beyond their studies, this proposal seeks to launch the University's First Mass Wedding Initiative for UoS Alumni. This social and humanitarian initiative aims to help alleviate the financial burdens faced by young people, encourage marriage, promote the values of solidarity and mutual support, and strengthen family stability, thereby contributing positively to the well-being and cohesion of society as a whole.
2. Rationale
- The rising cost of marriage has contributed to delays in family formation.
- There is a strong need to support the psychological and social well-being of graduates.
- The initiative reinforces the University's role as an educational institution with social responsibility.
- The initiative serves as a practical embodiment of the objectives and spirit of the Year of the Family.
- The initiative strengthens UoS graduates' sense of belonging to the University and to its community.
3. Objectives
The objectives of the initiative are to:
- Support and encourage University graduates to marry and start stable families.
- Help reduce the financial burdens associated with marriage.
- Promote a spirit of cooperation and social solidarity within the university community.
- Highlight the University's leading role in community and development initiatives.
- Instill the values of family stability and sound planning for married life.
- Build effective partnerships with community institutions and the public and private sectors.
- Celebrate University graduates and connect their academic journey with the beginning of their family life.
4. Target Group
- University of Sharjah graduates
- This should be the graduate's first marriage (approval is subject to compliance with the terms and conditions determined by the committee)
- Compliance with the conditions and standards approved by the organizing body.
5. Cost
Sponsorships will be sought for the event so that there will be no financial cost to the University.
6. Implementation
6.1 Establishment of an organizing committee
The committee shall include representatives from the Alumni Association Office, the Deanship of Student Affairs, Public Relations Department, Finance Department, the Media Center, and the Office of Community Collaboration. It will be responsible for the planning, supervision, coordination with supporting entities, and follow-up duties required for holding the event.
6.2 Registration
- Registration will be conducted through an electronic platform or official forms.
- Applications will be reviewed according to clear and transparent criteria.
6.3 Partnerships and Sponsors
- Secure sponsorships from government and private-sector entities.
- Financial or in-kind support may also be secured, including venues, catering services, event equipment, and wedding gifts.
6.4 Accompanying Awareness Program
Workshops and lectures will be organized before marriage on the following topics:
- family stability
- financial planning
- marital communication
- family responsibility
7. Mass Wedding Ceremony
- Venue: A large university banquet hall or one of the outdoor venues
- Proposed program:
- A recitation from the Holy Quran
- A speech on the University's role in supporting families and youth
- A speech by one of the official sponsors of the initiative
- A cultural segment on UAE national identity
- Honoring the couples and presenting commemorative gifts
- General tone: Elegant and well organized, reflecting the values of simplicity and moderation

9. Sustainability and Development
- Adopting the initiative as an annual event
- Exploring the feasibility of establishing a marriage support fund for UoS graduates
- Measuring the social impact of the initiative and improving it on a regular basis
10. Recommendations
- The ceremony should be held under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah.
- The initiative should be announced during the annual graduation ceremony.
Proposed Conditions for Participation in the First Mass Wedding for University of Sharjah Graduates
First: Target Group
Application shall be open to all University of Sharjah graduates of all nationalities, including citizens and residents of the UAE.
- The application shall be submitted by the graduate, in his capacity as the husband, and the wife's details shall be duly included in the application.
- The mass wedding ceremony shall be held for men.
Second: Admission Conditions
2.1 Eligibility
- In the first edition, eligibility shall be limited to graduates residing in the UAE.
- The applicant must not have been previously married.
- The marriage contract must have been concluded within the UAE.
- No more than three to six months shall have passed since the date of the marriage contract at the time of application.
- The applicant must not have participated in any other mass wedding.
- The applicant must submit a certificate of good conduct and good behavior from the competent authorities.
2.2 Application Requirements and Commitments
- The spouses must commit to attending and completing the awareness courses and lectures organized by the University before marriage, as a condition for receiving support.
- Applicants are solely responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and authenticity of all submitted documents. Failure to do so may give rise to legal liability.
- Applications are open to all eligible graduates, including those in receipt of financial support from other entities, such as the Marriage Fund. All applications shall be subject to review by the competent committee, which shall issue its decision in accordance with the approved regulatory controls.
2.3 Approval and Organizing Procedures
- Priority shall be granted according to specific criteria, given the limited number of available spots.
- Submission of an application or its preliminary acceptance shall not constitute final approval, as all applications are subject to review by the competent committees.
- The University reserves the right to amend, supplement, or modify any of the foregoing conditions at any time, as the public interest may necessitate.
Third: Support
- Participants shall receive marriage support in financial or in-kind form, the nature and value of which shall be determined by the University.
- Support shall be disbursed in two consecutive instalments:
- The first instalment shall become payable upon the participant's fulfilment of all required awareness program obligations.
- The second instalment shall become payable upon the participant's verified attendance and confirmed participation in the collective wedding ceremony.
Fourth: General Commitments
- The participant shall strictly observe the guest quota as determined by the organizing committee and shall not exceed the allocated number under any circumstances.
- The participant shall complete the marriage contract within the timeframe prescribed by the University, commencing from the date of the collective wedding ceremony and concluding no later than the end of the calendar year 2027.
- The participant shall undertake, by way of a binding commitment, not to sell, transfer, assign, or otherwise dispose of any support benefits provided under this program, including but not limited to hotel vouchers, travel tickets, gifts, or any other items of support, and shall not apply such benefits to any purpose unrelated to the wedding ceremony for which they were designated.
- The participant shall attend all official components of the ceremony in their entirety, including the reception, the honoring proceedings, the group photography session, and all organizational and procedural requirements stipulated by the organizing committee.
- The participants shall present themselves in attire and personal appearance befitting the formal nature of the event and consistent with the values and traditions of the community.
- The participant shall, for the duration of the ceremony, be regarded as a representative of the University, and shall conduct themselves at all times in a manner that upholds and reflects the reputation and values of the institution.
- The participant shall comply fully with all instructions, directives, and organizational requirements issued by the organizing committee, whether communicated prior to or during the ceremony.
Fifth: Organizational and Administrative Provisions
- The University may exclude any participant who fails to comply with the conditions or submits incorrect information.
- If a participant withdraws after receiving approval to his application, the University may replace him with another candidate.
- Participation may be revoked by the University at any stage prior to the ceremony if circumstances emerge that render the applicant ineligible.
- The University reserves the right to amend these conditions or add any provisions it deems appropriate in service of the initiative's objectives.
- The University may modify the type or value of the support provided, according to the resources available in each edition of the initiative.
- The participant agrees to the use of his images and related media materials for informational, documentation, and promotional purposes without financial compensation.
- Participation in this program is personal and non-transferable. The participant may not, under any circumstances, assign, transfer, or relinquish their place to any other party, whether directly or indirectly.
- Participation in the initiative does not create any vested rights in future programs or initiatives unless under separate conditions announced later.
Sixth: Financial and Legal Provisions
- The University reserves the right to recover any support disbursed under this program if it is established that the participant was ineligible at the time of application or failed to comply with any of the conditions set out herein.
- Should the marriage not be completed within the calendar year 2027 for any reason whatsoever, the participant shall be obligated to reimburse the University in full for all amounts disbursed.
- Participation in this initiative shall not give rise to any financial obligations on the part of the University beyond the support formally announced and approved for this program.
- The University reserves the right to verify the accuracy, completeness, and authenticity of all data and documents submitted by the participant, through such competent authorities it deems appropriate.
- By submitting an application, the participant expressly consents to the sharing of their personal data with any supporting or partner entities.
- The University reserves the right to feature the success stories of married participants across its official media platforms, in a manner that highlights the positive aspects of the initiative.
- The competent committee retains the discretion to grant exceptions to one or more of the conditions set out in this program in cases of exceptional circumstances.
