General admission requirements
The University of Sharjah considers applicants who meet its academic and conduct requirements, regardless of nationality, colour, religion or disability. Admission is competitive and subject to the approved capacity of each program. Priority is given to UAE nationals and applicants with higher secondary-school results.
- Applicants must complete at least 12 years of schooling and hold a secondary-school certificate, or an accepted equivalent, from a recognized institution. Professional diploma certificates do not qualify for undergraduate admission.
- The secondary-school certificate must ordinarily have been obtained within three years before joining the University. For Medicine and Dental Medicine, the stated period is one year.
- Applicants must not have been dismissed from the University of Sharjah or another institution for academic or disciplinary reasons.
- Applicants must meet the health and immunization requirements applicable to their intended program.
- Applicants may state their programs in order of preference. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
- Applicants completing secondary school may receive a conditional offer pending final results and fulfilment of all stated conditions.
Applicants educated outside the UAE must have attended a school recognized by the education authority in the country of study. Required certificate attestation and equivalency documents are listed in Step 03.

UAE General Secondary School Certificate
The program table above shows the minimum averages by college, track and qualifying subject. Review the precise track stated for your program. Applicants with the General track may need higher averages or qualifying courses for some programs; Medicine and Dental Medicine require the stated subject grades for direct admission.

American High School Diploma
- Complete 12 years of schooling and at least six subjects across four academic domains, including English. The diploma must be attested and equated by the UAE Ministry of Education.
- Grade 12 subjects determine the Science or Arts track and overall percentage. A Science track requires at least two sciences and one Mathematics subject in Grade 12.
- Medicine and Dental Medicine: Scientific or Advanced track (or equivalent); at least 95% for Medicine or 85% for Dental Medicine. In a year-based system, complete Mathematics and two of Chemistry, Biology or Physics in Grade 12 with at least 90% or A. In a credit-hour system, complete Mathematics and one of Chemistry or Biology in Grade 12 at 90% or A, and the other required science in an earlier year at 90% or A.
- Pharmacy: Scientific or Advanced track (or equivalent); at least 85% overall. The corresponding science and Mathematics subject requirement is 80% or B, with the same year-based or credit-hour distinction.

Australian High School Certificate
- Complete 12 years of schooling and six subjects across four academic domains, including English. The certificate must be attested and equated by the UAE Ministry of Education. Grade 12 subjects determine the track and percentage; a Science track requires two sciences and Mathematics.
- Medicine and Dental Medicine: Scientific or Advanced track (ATAR or equivalent), with at least 95% or 85%, respectively. Mathematics and two of Chemistry, Biology or Physics in Grade 12 must be at least 90% or A.
- Pharmacy: Scientific or Advanced track (or equivalent), at least 85% overall, and at least 80% or B in Mathematics and two sciences in Grade 12.

British Curriculum (IGCSE, GCSE, GCE)
- Complete Grade 12 or Year 13. The certificate must be attested and equated by the UAE Ministry of Education. Predicted grades may be used for early conditional admission, pending qualifying final results.
- The University calculates the average from the highest seven subjects: at least five O Levels at C or higher plus two AS Levels at D or higher; or six O Levels at C or higher plus one A Level at E or higher. Subjects must cover at least four academic domains. The Science track requires at least two sciences and Mathematics across these levels.
- Medicine and Dental Medicine: At least 95% or 85%, respectively. Mathematics and two of Chemistry, Biology or Physics must be at A across O, AS and A Levels. Chemistry or Biology (or both) must be at AS Level A or A Level B.
- Pharmacy: At least 85%. Mathematics and two sciences must be at B across O, AS and A Levels; Chemistry or Biology (or both) must be at AS Level B or A Level C.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
- Applicants must hold the full IB Diploma after at least 12 years of schooling. The diploma requires UAE attestation and equivalency, six subjects across four academic domains, at least three subjects at Higher Level and a minimum score of 24 out of 45.
- Classification in the Science track requires Mathematics and two science subjects.
- Medicine: A minimum score of 35 out of 45 is required. Mathematics and two subjects from Chemistry, Biology and Physics must each be completed at grade 5 at Higher Level or grade 6 at Standard Level. Chemistry or Biology must be at Higher Level.
- Dental Medicine: A minimum score of 29 out of 45 is required, with the same subject and level requirements stated for Medicine.
- Pharmacy: A minimum score of 29 out of 45 is required. Mathematics and two science subjects must each be completed at grade 5 at Higher Level or Standard Level. Chemistry or Biology must be at Higher Level.

Indian or Pakistani Board Certificate
- Complete at least 12 years of schooling and hold a Higher Secondary School Certificate meeting the intended program’s minimum percentage. Obtain the required UAE attestation and equivalency, and attest the Grade 10 and Grade 12 certificates and transcripts.
- Scientific programs require the Scientific or Engineering track. Applicants to Medicine, Dental Medicine or Pharmacy must have studied the Scientific or Medical track, including Chemistry and Biology.

Medicine admission and progression requirements
- Applicants must have obtained their secondary-school certificate in the UAE and meet the minimum average, qualifying subject grades, and English proficiency requirement stated above. Eligible applicants are considered through a competitive selection process.
- An AED 1,500 competition fee is payable. Under the current admission policy, this fee is non-refundable and is applied to tuition if the applicant is admitted.
- An admitted student must pay the first tuition instalment within one week of the announcement of admitted students and begin studies in the semester offered.
- Progression from the foundation year to Year 1 of the Doctor of Medicine program requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 out of 4.0 and a combined GPA of at least 2.5 in Chemistry I and II and Biology I and II, including their laboratories. Students meeting these minimums compete for the available seats.

Conditional admission and qualifying courses
- Applicants who do not meet a required school subject grade may be considered for conditional admission. They must pass the prescribed equivalent zero-credit remedial course during their first semester. The course does not count towards the cumulative GPA.
- A student who does not pass the course on the first attempt has one further opportunity. If the second attempt is unsuccessful, the student cannot continue in that program and must transfer to a program that does not require the subject.
- Applicants to Medicine and Dental Medicine must meet the required school subject grades for direct admission. This remedial option does not apply to those programs.

English proficiency and admission tests
New, transfer and bridging students must meet the English proficiency requirement for their program before course registration. The minimum scores are listed in the college criteria above.
Accepted examinations and test locations
- IELTS Academic: Tests administered by IDP or the British Council are accepted from any country. The UKVI version and computer-based and paper-based tests are accepted. Home Edition tests are not accepted.
- TOEFL iBT: Accepted, except for the Home Edition.
- TOEFL ITP: Accepted only when taken at the University of Sharjah, AMIDEAST Dubai Head Office or AMIDEAST Abu Dhabi Head Office.
- PTE Academic: Accepted, except for the Home Edition.
Validity and submission
English proficiency test results are valid for two years from the test date. Submit your certificate through the Admission Services Portal for review by the English Language Center. Refer to the English proficiency submission guide.
An IELTS Academic score of 5.5 exempts a student from remedial English skills courses. Students who have not met the required score may be placed in the Intensive English Program. The University may also require an interview or an additional in-house test.

Admission Tests for New Students
General Information
1.English Language Proficiency Test
Upon admission to UoS and prior to course registration, all students admitted to UoS (new, transfer and bridging) must demonstrate a level of English proficiency consistent with the requirement of their college. Students can choose one of the alternative exams listed below for proof of proficiency.
The certificate must be submitted to the Admission department through their Admission Services Portal to be reviewed and approved by the English Language Center at the UoS.
Important Notes
- The high school grades mentioned are those of the UAE educational curriculum (Advanced Track) or their equivalents as per the framework approved by the Ministry of Education.
- English proficiency test Certificates older than two years are not accepted.
- Students who achieve a score of 5.5 in the IELTS test are exempted from remedial skill courses.
- Students who couldn't obtain the required score in any of the above listed English Proficiency tests will be enrolled in an "Intensive English Program" course, in which their English level will be determined by the result of their English proficiency test. All students are placed in the Intensive English program with a recognized Language qualification.
- The UoS reserves the right to require students to attend an interview in the Languages Institute. Students may be required to take a further in-house test to ensure their scores are consistent with their English Language proficiency.
- Students who did not achieve the required subjects grades in high school will be accepted conditionally and will have to register and pass alternative qualifying courses at the university, which is equivalent to zero credit hours and is not included in the calculation of the cumulative average.

- Copy of UAE National Family Registry for local students.
- Copy of residence visa for non-local students (valid).
- Certified copy of Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent.
- A recent passport-size colored photograph.
- Health Fitness Certificate. The test must be done in university's student clinic or any governmental authority in the UAE. Click here to download the form (Please write the student's name and University ID number and attach a picture on the form).
- Copy of Good Conduct Certificate (valid).
- Copy of Birth Certificate.
- Copy of UAE National Identity Card (valid).
- Copy of mother's passport.
- AED 360 cash application fees (Non-refundable).
- Students are required to upload a copy of their English Language Proficiency Certificate (TOEFL, iBT, IELTS, or PTE) through the admission e-service link for verification by the Language Institute before the course registration period.
Additional Requirements For Students Obtaining Foreign Certificates
- Document proving that the student completed 12 years of school.
- Certified copy of grades 10,11, 12 certificates and Graduation certificate ( Diploma ).
- Equivalent certificate from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
- Students who obtained certificates from outside the UAE must provide a document proving that the High School Certificate is accepted by government universities in the country from which the certificate was obtained, and equivalent certificate from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
Additional Requirements For Bridging Programs Students
- Certified copy of the Diploma certificate.
- Certified copy of the transcript.
- Students who had received the Diploma from outside the UAE or from private institutes within the country must attain an equivalent certificate for the Diploma from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
Additional Requirements For Transfer Students
- Certified copy of the official transcript after withdrawing from the previous institution.
- Detailed course descriptions certified by the previous university.
- Students transferring from an institution outside the UAE must also submit a letter of accreditation from the Ministry of Education in the UAE.
- A letter clarifies the cumulative GPA and the academic status of the student at his/ her previous university.
Additional Requirements For UAE Local Male Students
National service completion letter or no objection to complete the study from the Authority of National Service and Reserve.
Additional Requirements For Kuwait Students
No objection letter from the Consulate General of the State of Kuwait - Cultural Office in UAE specifying the program the student is allowed to take at the University of Sharjah.
Additional Requirements For Visiting Students
Approval letter from student's home university with a list of courses allowed to be taken at the University of Sharjah in the relevant semester.
Additional Requirements For Students Graduated From Outside UAE
Students holding certificates issued from outside the UAE have to submit an equivalency certificate (From UAE ministry of education)
Important Notes
- Certificates issued from inside the country must be authenticated from the educational institution in which the student studied in the country, and the Ministry of Education or the Educational Zone.
- Certificates issued from outside the country must be authenticated by the official educational authority in the country of study (such as: the Ministry of Education, Boards of Education, the British Council ...), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in the country of study, or the Embassy of the Country in the UAE, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

Online Application Steps:
- Fill out the online application form, upload the required documents, submit the application, and pay the non-refundable application fee. To view the online application guide, click here.
- An email will be sent to the applicants confirming their admission status within 3-7 working days.
- Applicants nominated for acceptance need to reserve their seats by paying 12000 AED which is applied toward tuition fees if the student enrolls in the program. If the student withdraws or does not enroll in the University, an amount of 3000 AED will be non-refundable .
- Applicants must complete the required documents after paying the seat reservation fee which includes attested copies of high school certificates, colored personal photos, certificate of English language proficiency tests (e.g.: IELTS, TOEFL), receiving the medical fitness form or any additional documents required from the Office of the Registrar - Admissions office.
