The Effect of Nursing Interventions on Post-Surgical Wound Healing and Scar Formation

Wound healing is a complex, multi-phase physiological process involving hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling—all of which are essential for restoring tissue integrity. Disruptions in any of these phases can lead to delayed healing and an increased risk of complications. Using a cross-sectional design, this study evaluated wound healing status and scar formation by collecting quantitative data through the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT) and the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS). The findings indicate that systematic nursing care interventions—including consistent wound assessment, appropriate dressing selection, pain management, medication administration, nutritional support, patient positioning, mobilization, and patient education—significantly contribute to improved wound healing outcomes.
