Psychosocial Stress, Burnout, and Turnover among Intensive Care Units and Emergency Rooms Nurses
The objective of this project is to analyze the psychosocial stress experienced by ICU and ED nurses, determining how various work and organizational factors lead to burnout and turnover intention. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study develops an in-depth understanding of these nurses’ experiences. Data was collected through semi-structured, audio-recorded interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal four main themes, highlighting a strong presence of psychosocial stress among ICU and ED nurses that is closely linked to burnout and the intention to leave their roles. To help nurses cope and improve retention, healthcare facilities must develop strong organizational support mechanisms and promote effective coping strategies
