Impact of pain on academic performance among university students

This cross-sectional survey of 231 University of Sharjah undergraduates found that physical pain is highly prevalent and typically of moderate intensity. It often co-occurs with moderate stress and is managed largely through self-directed pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies. The study reveals that higher pain intensity is significantly associated with poorer concentration, motivation, productivity, attendance, and exam performance. Despite these academic impacts, student awareness and utilization of available university health, counseling, and academic accommodation services remain critically limited.
