Exploration of Cyberchondria and Online Health Information Searching Among Healthcare Students at the University of Sharjah

A qualitative study conducted at the University of Sharjah explores how healthcare students use online and AI-based platforms, such as ChatGPT, to seek health information. Through in-depth interviews with 32 students across various health disciplines, the research found that while digital tools are highly valued for their accessibility, convenience, privacy, and speed, they can also trigger increased health anxiety, repetitive reassurance-seeking, and concerns regarding information credibility. Students frequently report using these resources as a first point of consultation, appreciating the ease of AI-generated answers. Ultimately, the findings highlight the growing necessity of digital health literacy, the critical evaluation of online information, and the responsible use of AI technologies to support student well-being and informed decision-making.
