Academic Resilience Among Health Sciences Students of UOS
Resilience is the ability to adapt to adversity and recover from challenges. While burnout negatively impacts academic performance through exhaustion, fatigue, and poor sleep, resilient students are better able to cope and maintain balance. This mixed-methods study at the University of Sharjah involved 208 survey respondents and focus groups from each health sciences departments. Six themes emerged: burnout manifestations, cognitive overload, resilience strategies (time management, prioritization), perspective transformation, academic workload challenges, and social support. Findings highlight the importance of faculty, clinical agencies, and curriculum planners in recognizing burnout and fostering resilience to enhance students’ academic success.
