Occupational Health and Safety in Dental clinics

There has been a discernible rise in the acknowledgment of the critical role ergonomics play in optimizing work environments in recent years. To improve workers' comfort, health, and productivity, employers are devoting an increasing number of resources to conducting comprehensive ergonomic assessments and implementing specific measures into action.  These interventions, which include custom workstation designs, ergonomic equipment, and ergonomic training, have been widely accepted with the goal of reducing the frequency of incidents at work and improving overall job performance. But even in these early phases, there is a noticeable pattern that over time, the enthusiasm for ergonomic initiatives decreases leading to a corresponding decrease in the focus on ergonomic issues in the workplace environment. This change may result in the loss of important chances to improve employee well-being and operational efficiency, highlighting the necessity it is for all industries to continue to adhere to ergonomic standards. This inspired our curiosity about the interactions between University of Sharjah students and their environment in terms of ergonomics, primarily how these aspects affect the students' daily tasks and general well-being. The ergonomic assessments were conducted on 28 Graduate Dental students from Clinics A, B, C, and D at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates' College of Dentistry. The participants included both males and females.  Over the course of four hours, the first and second shifts' observations were completely documented. Data were gathered according to the frequency of events within specified settings. The findings will indicate the prevalence level of ergonomics risk factor among the Dental practitioners. The recommendations of the intervention program will be proposed at the end of study.
