Student Council Towards Digitalization and Environmental Health

Student name: Mahrah Hassan Alzarooni (U23200366)

The Department of Sociology, in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Empowerment, organized a student council titled “Towards Digitalization and Environmental Health.” The event aimed to raise awareness among university students about the interconnection between digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and occupational health and safety.

I delivered a 30-minute talk focusing on the importance of the One Health approach, linking human, environmental, and occupational health. And discussed how students’ daily behaviors such as recycling, energy conservation, laboratory safety practices, and responsible digital use contribute to a sustainable and safe learning environment.

Examples from medical laboratories were shared to emphasize environmentally responsible and safety-driven practices, including chemical preparation, chemical and biological waste segregation, recycling lab materials, and adopting digital systems for monitoring and documentation. And how environmental and workplace safety contribute to students’ well-being and the future workforce.
