Promoting Healthy Eating and Positive Body Image in Adolescents

On April 17th, senior-level students from the Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics program conducted an educational session titled “Mindful Munching: A Guide to Healthy Eating Habits” at Al Ma’arifa International Private School for female students in Grade 8. The session was designed to raise awareness about the connection between food, emotions, and body image, while promoting mindful and healthy eating behaviours.

As part of their academic coursework, the students developed and delivered an interactive presentation addressing emotional and psychological triggers for eating, the impact of social media and peer influence on body image and dietary choices, and the risks associated with unhealthy dieting practices. The session also clarified the distinction between disordered eating patterns and clinical eating disorders, offering practical guidance for maintaining balanced nutrition.

The event concluded with an engaging myth-busting activity that helped participants differentiate between common nutrition myths and evidence-based facts. The initiative aimed to empower adolescents to foster a healthy relationship with food and to make informed decisions that support their overall physical and mental well-being.
