Hag Al Laila Brings Back Memories and Shares Traditions
A beloved Emirati tradition, Hag Al Laila is celebrated on the 15th of Shabaan, the month preceding the Holy month of Ramadan. Children dressed in their traditional dress walk around their neighborhood filling their small paper bags with snacks. CFAD student, Humaid Salim Amzaini, initiated this year’s celebrations with a re-creation of a Fereej (Emirati for neighborhood) exhibiting a small shop featuring popular sweets and snacks, a gold shopfront displaying traditional jewelry, and a make-shift tailor corner. He led Emirati students’ celebrations and sharing the joy of this tradition with faculty and staff. All took home bags of sweets to share with their family and friends. Thank you Humaid for continuing the tradition of Hag Al Laila and sharing it practices with the CFAD community. Ramadan Kareem from our family to yours.
