Ya Zaman Al Wasl
The Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs collaborated with the CFAD and sponsored the exhibit Ya Zaman Al Wasl, with the aim to draw visual and artistic similarities between al-Andalus and the Emirate of Sharjah. The exhibit was curated by Asil Albaghdadi (Lecturer in Interior Design) with the support of content expert Dr. Sami L. De Giosa (Assistant Professor of Fine Arts). This initiative brought together four art and design studios: Painting I (Dr. Karima Al-shomely, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts), Photography II (Tor Seidel, Lecturer in Fine Arts), Textiles for Interiors (Dr. Ayman Fathy, Associate Professor of Interior Design), and Textiles Printmaking (Andreea Lonhardt-Muresan, Lecturer in Fashion Design and Textiles). Dr. De Giosa noted that “each piece of art combines al-Andalus traditions with Sharjah's contemporary cultural landscape, resulting in the exchange of traditions. As a result of these works, we are able to realize the aesthetic, intellectual and spiritual connections that have existed between these two regions of the world throughout history.” Students explored themes of heritage, memory, and identity. The project was also launched in recognition of the International Islamic Art Day 2024, proclaimed at the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2019.
