Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization Welcomes VR
“Bridging Centuries: An Augmented Journey through Islamic Civilization” is the theme of the latest partnership between Sharjah Museums Authority and College of Fine Arts and Design. The Exhibit was a collaboration between the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization and Department of Applied Design. In the intersection of technological innovation and cultural heritage, this augmented reality (AR) exhibition reimagines how we experience and understand the rich tapestry of Islamic civilization. Visual Communication seniors worked on this AR project as part of their “Interaction Design II” studio under the supervision of Visual Communication Lecturers Madiha Jamil and Asad Iqbal. Through strategic digital annotations, 3D reconstructions, and interactive storytelling students created an intuitive and profound journey that allowed visitors of all ages to connect deeply with the extraordinary legacy and bring innovative perspectives to this transformative museum experience. External jurors from the Sharjah Museum Authority were present at the exhibit opening to engage in the work and provided constructive feedback. We extend special appreciation to Museum Director Ms. Intisar Al-Obaidli and staff who welcomed the collaboration and facilitated students visits during the research phase.
