Master’s thesis entitled: Perceptions of Sharjah Youth toward Working in the Private Sector

This study aims to understand the perceptions of Sharjah youth towards working in the private sector, the factors influencing their decisions, the opportunities and challenges they face, and the benefits and gains for youth entering the private sector job market. The sample is a purposive non-probability sample of 200 individuals from Sharjah youth. To achieve the objectives of the descriptive study, the social survey method by sample was used to analyze the data of the study sample individuals. The data was analyzed, interpreted, and statistically processed using the SPSS program, utilizing the questionnaire as the study tool to obtain quantitative data.

Findings: The study showed a positive impact of Emirati youth’s attitudes toward working in the private sector, where youth gain cognitive and social returns from this sector, especially in a culturally diverse work environment. Although the private sector provides opportunities to develop new skills, there are some challenges that affect youth satisfaction, such as lack of vacation, work pressure, weak promotion systems, and the absence of a clear career path. The results also showed that the lack of continuous education and weak professional development cause youth to feel frustrated, alongside limited financial independence and opportunities for material rewards.

Recommendations: The study recommends the need to enhance the role of the state in supporting the employment of citizens in the private sector by imposing localization regulations and providing incentives to committed institutions. It also calls for the development of the educational system to be aligned with the needs of the labor market and to spread positive awareness to encourage youth to work in the private sector instead of the public sector. The study also recommends gradually reducing dependence on foreign labor and providing a motivating and safe work environment that includes improving salaries, rewards, and social insurance procedures. Finally, the study calls for achieving a balance between work and personal life for employees to ensure work continuity and increase youth satisfaction in the private sector.
