Scientific Lecture Entitled Intellectual Security and Its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development
Dr.Roula Ahmad Maya, from the Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Sharjah, delivered a scientific lecture entitled "Sustainability Values and Their Relationship to Achieving Intellectual Security". The lecture was part of the Forum on Intellectual Security in Islam, organized by the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, held on Monday, April 21, 2025.
The lecture addressed several key themes, including the theoretical framework of sustainable development, the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the importance of intellectual security as a fundamental condition for building a safe and cohesive society. Dr. Mia also explained how environmental, social, and economic values serve as essential pillars for promoting intellectual security by fostering a culture of belonging and dialogue, and by confronting manifestations of extremism and intellectual alienation—ensuring a balance between development and societal awareness.
The lecture was attended by faculty members and students from various colleges, in addition to external participants from institutions and individuals via the Zoom platform. The session included discussions and questions on ways to address contemporary development challenges and the potential for achieving sustainable development in Arab countries through the adoption of more inclusive policies that are mindful of cultural, social, economic, and environmental realities.
At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Mahdi Al-Janabi, Director of the Intellectual Forum, honored Dr. Roula Maya in recognition of her distinguished academic contribution and her active role in promoting dialogue on sustainability and intellectual security in both Arab and global contexts.
