Master thesis entitled: History of Archaeological Research in the Emirate of Sharjah Between 1950-2020

This study investigates the historical development of archaeological research in the Emirate of Sharjah between 1950 and 2020. It seeks to examine and document the trajectory of archaeological exploration in the Emirate, which extends from the Stone Age to the late Islamic period. The research aims to trace both the chronological and institutional evolution of archaeological inquiry, analyze the nature of the discovered archaeological sites and artifacts, and shed light on their significance in reconstructing patterns of ancient life. Moreover, it explores the commercial and cultural networks that historically linked Sharjah to regional and global contexts. Employing a descriptive and analytical methodology, the study draws upon the results of archaeological excavations, academic studies, and field reports issued by Sharjah’s archaeological missions. The findings reveal that the Emirate possesses a rich and diverse cultural heritage that has long been open to interaction with neighboring civilizations. The study further emphasizes that archaeological research in Sharjah transcends the mere act of excavation; rather, it constitutes a national project that bridges the past with the present and plays a vital role in shaping the Emirate’s historical and cultural identity.
