A Scientific Lecture at the Women and Society Conference at the Royal College for Women in Bahrain

Dr. Roula Maya from the Department of Sociology and Ms. Sira Gourbia from the College of Communication at the University of Sharjah participated in the 3rd Women and Society Research Conference (WSRC 2025), organized by the Royal University for Women in the Kingdom of Bahrain under the patronage of the Supreme Council for Women, under the theme: "Empowering Leadership, Innovation, and Sustainability", held from May 11 to 13, 2025.

Their research paper, titled: "The Correlation Between the Relative Attainment of Gender Equality (SDG5) and the Other SDGs in the Arab Countries: A Quantitative Analysis", was accepted for presentation at the conference.

The study focused on analyzing the relationship between progress in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and its impact on other SDGs in Arab countries, based on data from the 2024 and 2025 Sustainable Development Reports. The findings revealed that SDG5 remains the least achieved goal in the Arab region, despite its significant influence on indicators such as health, education, poverty, and infrastructure.

The study also highlighted that the United Arab Emirates leads the Arab world in advancing gender equality, and how this progress has positively influenced the achievement of other development goals. The researchers concluded that integrating gender equality policies into economic, environmental, and social frameworks is essential for achieving balanced and sustainable development.

Notably, the paper has been accepted for publication by Springer and will be indexed in the Scopus database—an academic achievement that reflects the University of Sharjah’s excellence in supporting scientific research and advancing knowledge in sustainable development issues and applications.
