Protecting our community is a shared responsibility

About

Expanded significantly on both international and regional levels, posing a real threat to the security and stability of nations and governments. This is due to the use of advanced criminal methods that rely on high-tech tools within the information technology environment. Consequently, countries have been compelled to activate their security apparatuses specialized in combating drug crimes in a way that enables them to confront this threat and implement appropriate preventive and therapeutic policies.

In this context, and under the slogan "We are all partners in responsibility and building a sustainable society," the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, in partnership with the General Command of Sharjah Police, the Sharjah Police Sciences Academy, the University of Sharjah – Al Dhaid Branch, the College of Law, and the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies, is organizing the "Community Prevention Week of the College of Arts." This initiative aims to enhance cognitive, social, and health awareness regarding the dangers of drug use and addiction, and to instill values and attitudes that contribute to reducing the rates of drug and psychoactive substance abuse, especially among youth. It also seeks to change societal perceptions of addiction as a disease and raise awareness about mechanisms for providing medical, familial, and community support to ensure sustainable recovery within society.

Objectives of the Week:

  • Enhance health, social, and cultural awareness among university students and the local community about the harms of drugs and addiction.
  • Embody the principle of coordination and integration of efforts between academic and security institutions in preventing drug addiction.
  • Showcase examples of efforts made by security institutions to reduce drug supply and implement awareness programs.
  • Highlight UAE legislation related to combating drugs, rehabilitation, and recent developments in this field.
