Bachelor Research: A Descriptive and Analytical Study of the Historical Novel in the Modern Era – Al-Qata’i as a Model

Within the folds of this study are insights through which I explore the novel Al-Qata’i: The Trilogy of Ahmad ibn Tulun from a descriptive and analytical perspective. It can be said that this scholarly work falls within the realm of modern Arabic literature.

The research is divided into several sections:

  • The Introduction, which outlines the significance of the topic, the reason for its selection, and presents the research problem and objectives, the scientific methodology employed, along with a summary of the previous studies that were relied upon to complete this research.

The main body of the study begins with a prefatory section that provides a brief overview of the author of the novel, her literary achievements, and her distinctive style, which blends literary narration with a realistic presentation of historical events. This is followed by an introduction to the historical figure of Ahmad ibn Tulun, his role in establishing the Tulunid state, and a discussion of his historical significance and context within the framework of the novel’s events.

  • Chapter One offers an overview of the emergence and development of the historical novel in modern Arabic literature.

  • Chapter Two serves as the central pillar upon which the entire research is built, as it analyzes the studied novel from the perspective of artistic structure, addressed in six sub-sections.

The study concludes with a conclusion that summarizes the main findings and recommendations reached by the researcher.
