On 16 April 2024, the UAE experienced the heaviest recordedrainfall in over 75 years, overwhelming existing drainagesystems and causing severe flooding, including in AlSeyouhSuburb, where streets flooded, homes were submerged, andinfrastructure was damaged. AlSeyouh is a rapidly developing,low-lying urban area in Sharjah with gentle slopes and naturaldepressions that make it vulnerable to surface wateraccumulation during extreme rainfall events.
