GHARIS: MANGROVE AWARENESS CENTER CONSERVING MANGROVE HABITATS THROUGH SUSTAINABLE ECOTOURISM DEVELOPMENT

“Gharis” is a Mangrove awareness center aiming to conserve mangrove habitats and develop criteria for sustainable developments near mangrove ecosystems. Status of global mangrove habitats, benefits and threats to mangroves, and efforts towards mangrove conservation are discussed in the literature review. Examples of local, regional, and international developments as part of the literature, before narrowing them down into in-depth case studies that were reviewed, collected, and presented. Analysis of mangrove populations and habitats was conducted to aid in ideal site selection. Project programs and guidelines were developed in response to the required facilities and considerations based on interviews, community responses, and research data. Concept design takes into consideration the surrounding built and natural environment. Final design stage outcomes are achieved and showcase the final representation of architecturally developed structures. Engineering solutions are presented in accordance with LEED and Estidama standards. Project is concluded with further encouraged efforts towards mangrove conservation and preservation.
