Information Systems department's student wins RAG Global Startup Challenge with Halal Journey app
he College of Computing is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Sumaiya Mohammed Abdul Rahman, a student and teaching assistant in the Department of Information Systems, who was named the Startup Challenge Winner at the RAG Global Business Dubai 2025 event — one of the UAE's leading entrepreneurship and innovation platforms.
Sumaiya developed Halal Journey, a Flutter-based mobile application designed to support Muslim travelers and communities worldwide. The app brings together a comprehensive suite of features in a single platform, including halal restaurant and facility search, mosque locator, prayer times, Qibla direction, halal product scanner, community features, and an AI-powered chatbot.
The project was recognised for its innovative application of information systems, mobile technologies, and digital solutions to real-world community needs. Sumaiya received the RAG Angel Investment Recognition in acknowledgment of the app's entrepreneurial and social impact potential.
This achievement reflects the College of Computing's commitment to nurturing students who translate academic excellence into meaningful, real-world innovation. We congratulate Sumaiya on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work.
