I first walked into the doors of M31 and the Central Laboratories as a scared and naïve 17-year-old unaware of what was to come. Looking back at the 4 years I spent at the College of Health Sciences at the University of Sharjah as a Medical Laboratory Sciences student, I am overcome with pride. Pride of being an alumnus of the top university of the UAE. Pride of being a student and a highest-honors graduate of a college that is accredited internationally. Pride that I once was the president of the society of a department that showed everyone that we are the heroes behind the scenes, and that no diagnosis can be made without us. During my years at UOS, I not only learned how to become the best medical laboratory scientist possible, but I gained a family of scientists and created a strong network. I discovered both the clinical and research aspects of our major and spent a great deal of time perfecting my laboratory skills. I visited medical laboratory conferences and competitions and am proud to say that we at UOS won the first ever LabQ competition hosted by MedLab. I became a better person, and a more confident scientist, hoping to serve her community in whatever way she can, thanks to the Medical Laboratory Sciences department at the University of Sharjah.
I feel so proud and delighted to have earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Medical Laboratory Sciences program in UOS. During this journey, I have gained a lot of knowledge, skills, and experience, and all the years that I have spent in UOS have prepared me to become a competent medical lab scientist. As a highest honors graduate, I was able to apply for post-graduate studies and get a teaching assistant scholarship, which has opened the door for a rich experience in the academic and research field. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the MLS faculty. With their consistent help, support and guidance, I was able to accomplish, learn and be passionate about pursuing my future career in the academic field. The opportunities provided by the university truly strengthened my communication, education, and connections with the scientific and public community.
I am grateful to have graduated with a B.Sc. with highest honors from the University of Sharjah, College of Health Sciences, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences. Throughout the four years of my study, I have gained extensive knowledge in clinical science as well as experience in scientific research. I took part in three research projects, two of which I have participated voluntarily. University life has taught me that if there is a will there is a way. Through hard work and persistence, one can undoubtedly reach his aim. Recently I have passed the ASCP certification exam. I am looking forward to pursue graduate studies that will prepare me for a career in medical research. I want to take this opportunity to send a very big thank you to all the professors who have taught me. Each one of you was unique in his/her way. I certainly learned a lot from every one of you. You made us think from different perspectives, encouraged us to raise questions and sometimes to research for their answers. You were very kind, lovely and always willing to help.
I’m grateful for pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at this well-esteemed University. I’m proud to have passed my American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) exam from the first attempt and without the need for transcript equivalency. In addition, this program has equipped me with scientific research skills that enable me to continue my journey in the academic research field. University of Sharjah is a great platform that allowed me to learn from the best and most experienced mentors, whom I wish to send a million thanks to. Thank you for faithfully answering my endless questions, for being my role models, and for assisting me whenever I felt lost... Thank you for being passionate, caring, and simply great! Your efforts have undoubtedly contributed to my graduation with a CGPA of 4.0. University of Sharjah, you will always be a delightful memory in my mind.
