Architecture, and the built environment have the potential to make human life better in both incidental and significant ways; the emancipator and redemptive potentials of design deserve our serious attention, and how to relate the outdoor with the indoor environment, where the importance of Interior Design as the direct environment to the users. In teaching, I focus on fostering independent thinking informed by self-discipline and a commitment to high ideals, careful observation, and cultivation of values. Central to my teaching philosophy is my desire for students to take responsibility for their own learning. Peter Elbow said it well: “Teachers are more useful when it is clearer they are not necessary.” I view teaching as an extension of the process of lifelong learning. My primary goal is not only to engage students with course material and the studio experience, but to help students to discover who they are as human beings—to encourage the integration of knowledge into the process of living and discovery. In summary, I believe my teaching philosophy is an extension of the principles that I seek to apply to my life in general: Make every attempt to do all things well but have a reasonable view of your own abilities, we all have strengths and weaknesses and there is always room for improvement; never be afraid to admit that you don’t know something; be slow to speak and quick to listen to others; never stop learning.
