CULTURAL MANIFESTATIONS ACROSS THE UAE
Sharjah - November 30, 2020

“Cultural Manifestations across the UAE” is a backlit mural composed of 126 titles representing the country’s traditional and contemporary icons. The collaborative effort, coordinated by Dr. Dana Amro and instruction of Dr. Mohammed Yousif, Dr. Karima Al-shomely, Senior Tutor Moatasem Alkubaisi, and Lecturer Shaikha Almazrou, included 126 students, five faculty and two staff, representing the interdisciplinary work of four programs namely: Fashion Design & Textiles, Fine Arts, Interior Design and Visual Communication.
Students presented the mural to a community partner, “International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property-ICCROM,” as part of National Day 2020 celebrations.
This collaborative and interdisciplinary work is significant because it:
• Sustains heritage and cultural identity among the youth through integration in contemporary work.
• Engages students with partners in the surrounding community.
• Promotes Art and Design beyond the typical institutions (galleries, exhibitions),
• Most importantly, creatively navigates the sudden impact of a global pandemic on art and design institutions.
