The Renewable Challenge (RC) is a competition that is organized by the SREE club and supervised by the faculty members of the department of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering. The RC takes place every semester and the participants are the students who are taking intro. to Energy where they are asked to do a small project with prototype that is related to renewable energy and sustainability.
This semester, Fall 2019/2020, 12 outstanding projects were competing. There were some new and creative ideas such as "The Green Vortex", "Solar Fog and Humidity Absorber", and "Wind Without Energy Turbines". The project that took the first place was "Solar Powered Parking Radar", which was done by Sheikha Essa Ahli, Asma Ali Murah, Abir Amir Rashid, and Madia Ali Saif. The solar powered parking radar is a sustainable way to solve a long overdue problem, which is parking problems. It is electricity supplied from solar PV, sensors are placed on each parking line, once movement is detected on the parking lines, sensors will send signals to the motor that carries the camera, the camera will take a picture of the car plate and save it in a memory card for fines.
